The Genchurch Worship Team is a part of the Generations Church family on mission, committed to helping people encounter the presence of God.

Our process starts with understanding our values and expectations and submitting an interest form. From there, we’ll connect with you and walk through the process together; including an audition, a shadow experience with the team, and a pastoral conversation about discipleship. Each step gives us a chance to get to know you, experience what serving together looks like, and make sure you’re prepared for your role.

Please know we never say never, but sometimes we say “not yet.” If you have a heart to serve and grow, but don’t make the team right away, we would love to equip you with resources in your area of development.

How to Audition

1. Read our Worship Team Values & Expectations

2. Fill out the Audition Interest Form

3. Prepare with our Audition Requirements

Before joining the Worship Team, we ask that you have completed Growth Track, served on an Introductory Team for at least 3 months, and are actively committed in the life of the church. We’re looking for a heart for worship, humility, and teachability. We also expect team members to be growing in discipleship through faithful serving, tithing and active participation in the life of the church.

THINGS TO KNOW

In-Ear Monitors & Headphones

We use personal in-ear monitors during rehearsals and services, and each team member is responsible for managing their own mix. We have headphones available on site to purchase for $25. If you already have high quality headphones or would prefer to purchase some on your own please consult with our team. Worship Team members use the Monitor Mix app to customize their in-ear monitor mix. Download the app to your phone or iPad before your shadow experience.

Clicks & Multitracks

Our team plays with click and backing tracks to help create consistency and unity across the band. Every musician and vocalist should be comfortable staying in time with the click. We use chord charts along with MultiTracks resources so team members can rehearse by playing along with the actual arrangement. If you’re not familiar with chord charts or MultiTracks, that’s okay — we’ll help you learn.

Preparation & Practice

We value preparation and excellence. Team members are expected to practice on their own using the provided resources before rehearsals and services. Resources may include chord charts, MultiTracks practice tools, reference tracks, harmonies, MP3s, and arrangement notes. Our goal is for everyone to come prepared so rehearsals are productive, unified, and focused on creating a distraction-free environment for people to encounter God.

Platform Presence & Engagement

The stage is for serving the room. For worship leaders and vocalists, we encourage visible engagement — smiling, clapping, moving, lifting hands, and carrying a sense of freedom and joy. We are not just leading songs, we are partnering with the Holy Spirit to help set the atmosphere of the room. For musicians, we encourage strong familiarity with the music so you can look up from the charts as much as possible. Your engagement matters. When the team is fully present and engaged, it shifts the environment from musicians performing songs to a unified worship experience that serves people and points them to Jesus.

Music Style

With so many different music styles out there, it’s helpful to define the sound we are aiming for. Our music is modern, guitar-driven worship built for the local church, with driving bass and drums, melodic electric guitar, big pad sounds, and strong, powerful lead vocals. At the heart of everything we do is leading singable, congregational worship — songs that are easy for people to engage with, participate in, and respond to. We carry a balance of high-energy moments and simple, Spirit-led worship, always focused on serving the room and helping people encounter the presence of God. Our goal is not performance, but participation — the local church lifting their voice together in worship.

Worship Leaders

We don’t “audition” for main worship leaders. We hold this role as a high level of leadership within our community, and we seek to raise up these leaders through relationship and development rather than through auditions. If you are a worship leader that is interested in getting involved – the best option is to audition as a vocalist first – get to know the team, and what it’s like to serve in worship with us. As time goes on in the relationship, we would welcome conversation.

Tablets & Planning Center

Each team member is expected to provide their own iPad or tablet for practice and stage use. We use Planning Center Music Stand for all charts and music resources. We do not print music, so team members are expected to be comfortable using the Planning Center app for preparation and during rehearsals and services.
